E R W I N S C H M I E D E L , Bariton
He has started his vocal studies at the musicschool of Vienna with the French soprano
Monique Muth and later on with the Russian soprano Ela Malkin. Than he has cotinued his
studies with the mezzo - soprano Elfriede Obrowsky - Zimmermann ( all singing teachers at the
musicschools/Conservatory in Vienna. During the time his training has been completed through
the cooperation with other renowned artists ( also in The REINHARD - SEMINAR ).
The revival of those lieder and ballads which have been nearly forgotten during the last
decades is a great intention of the baritone Erwin Schmiedel. This is the field for his
voice, which he uses powerful and of course also with the so important piano, both necessary
in the lied interpretation.
In particular he is setting a high value on a profound creation in the art of singing of former
years.
Above all Erwin Schmiedel has a very large lied repertoire which is completed through a wide
spectrum of opera, operetta and sacred music. In the last years he sang in nearly all important
churches in Austria especially in the Schubert-, Piaristen-, Malteser-, Reindorf- and very often
in the Karlskirche in Vienna.
Concerts of the music schools and of the Conservatory in Vienna, performances of
the “Wiener
Festwochen”, various lieder recitals (for example with the renowned lied accompanist Margit
Fussi). His Stageexperience includes also the role of the Graf in Lortzings " Waffenschmied "or
his faszinated interpretation from a very bad "Knight Hadubrand" in a rarelly performed Opera
from H.I. Biber.
Opera as well as church concerts at home and abroad are building the background for the
large field of activities of the singer.
With great success the artist has engaged in the music of Robert Stolz.
In the course of the great “Robert Stolz Gala” in May, 2001 in the
presence of Mrs. Einzi Stolz,
president of the “Internationale Robert Stolz Gesellschaft”, she has honoured Erwin Schmiedel
by the award of the “Ehrenurkunde der Internationalen Robert Stolz
Gesellschaft”.
